Obituary of Edward Zinis
Edward Zinis, 66, of Trenton died Sunday July 2, 2017 at Compassionate Care Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Hamilton.
Edward loved music, making it a part of his every day as an owner of Cheap Thrills, the iconic record store in New Brunswick. During those years, he created a world that embraced everyone: misfits, creative types, and lonely teenagers as well as judges, lawyers, doctors, Rutgers University deans and students. All were welcome. He was a free-spirit and one of the coolest dudes most people would ever meet: a drummer in small bands across central Jersey, a journalism student at the University of Missouri and Rutgers University, a member of the New York Glam Rock scene, shaking hands with the likes of David Bowie and Marianne Faithful, and a chef studying at the French Culinary Institute. He also married, had a son, and converted to Greek Orthodox all of which filled him with joy. Every Christmas Eve and Greek Easter, he celebrated his love of food with his family, siblings, parents, and friends making wonderful dishes including his famous Oysters Rockefeller. Traveling to England, Ireland, Greece, and New Orleans, where he lived for several years, enriched his life as he enriched those around him with his wit and intelligence. As he often said, even as he suffered from early Alzheimer’s, “I’m livin’ large.” He leaves behind his beloved son Alex Zinis and daughter-in-law Arizona Zinis, his devoted sisters’ Judith Zinis and Linda Zinis, his brother-in-law Frank Noviello, his nieces Medb Marsceill, Megan Noviello, and Nicole Guglielmo, his nephews Larry McGearty and Frankie “Boy” Noviello, his step son Danny Campora, his wife Abbie Mole, and countless friends especially Jim Zydallis.
