Teresa M. Prashad, 74, of Lawrenceville passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2019.
Teresa was born in Ahmedabad, India where she studied fine arts at CN College of Fine Arts. Arts was her passion and she taught and tutored children in Mount Carmel Convent and Saint Xavier’s high school. She had a tremendous sense of family, with her nurturing and wisdom, she cared for all her siblings after her father’s demise.
In 1972, Teresa made the bold decision to immigrate to the United States. She established herself as a premier freelance artist for many designers in New York City. Her designs were featured for many studios including Christian Dior, Wamsutta, Bloomingdales, Macy’s and Fortunoff. She married Bhagwat M. Prashad in 1981. In 1990, she took her artistic talents to establishing silk paintings. She learned and defined these skills at the Art School in Demarest New Jersey. This became her signature brand of art. Her artwork can be seen at St. Ann’s Church in Lawrenceville, Ellarslie Museum in Trenton. Her scarves are available at the gift shop in the Museum and had the honor of former governor Chris Christie ask for a silk painting of the state seal. She taught at Princeton Adult Day School, Lawrence Senior Center, and was an art teacher for the children at the after school program in Lawrence. She was also a parishioner at St. Ann’s Church in Lawrenceville. She was a member of various art societies, including Garden State Watercolor Society, D&R Greenway, Lawrence Artist Network, South Brunswick Art Council to name a few.
Predeceased by her parents Augustine and Maria Fernandes; and her sister Angela; she is survived by her husband Bhagwat M. Prashad; her daughter Nicole Glospie and son in law Thomas Glospie; her three grandchildren Connor, Kylie, and Matthew; her brothers Nicholas, Victor, and Mario; her sisters Juliana, Carmen and Cecilia. and her many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on May 18, 2019 at 11am at Princeton Abbey, 75 Mapleton Rd, Princeton, NJ 08540.
