Elizabeth (Betty) J. Toto, 93, passed away at home in her sleep on October 5, 2017.
Born Elizabeth J. Stierle in Newark, Delaware on April 17, 1924, her family moved quite often, until around 1936-1939, where they settled down in Princeton on Maple Street. IT was here she met the love of her life, married and raised two children in a small apartment over top of her in-laws grocery store, located on the corner of Witherspoon and Jackson Streets. It was about 1946-49, she decided to help her husband out by securing a job with America Cyanamid located at that time off Route 1. She continued working until 1958, when they built their dream home and bought the corner property on Witherspoon and Spring Streets; opened Gale Dry Cleaners and Bill’s Men Shop. They worked together side by side until their retirement; did some traveling, took care of bus trips to Atlantic City. With the passing of her spouse on October 4, 2004, she continued on keeping family together the best way she knew how. Her door was always open for company, she greeted you with a big smile and put the coffee on. If you were on her list to receive a card, whatever the occasion, she made sure you got that special card. She touched many hearts with the card giving and she never forgot you. I think she kept the card store and post office in business for many years. She picked the right time to join her love one, it’s exactly 13 years, 1 day that he has been gone. Rest in peace Mom, you will be missed more than you will ever know.
