Obituary of Dr. Sook Chon
Sook Young Chon, 62, of Princeton, passed away peacefully on October 30th, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Sook was born in Busan, South Korea, graduated from Kyungnam Women’s High School and attended Sookmyung University in Seoul. She became one of the youngest assistant professors in Korea at the Hanyang University Medical School. At the age of 28, Sook moved to the United States as a visiting faculty at the University of Oklahoma Medical School. Sook’s passion led her to pursue a Ph.D. in genetic engineering at the University of Maryland. Afterwards, she became a professor and cancer researcher, working hard to find a cure for the disease.
She was a devoted wife and mom, a dedicated professor and cancer researcher, an active member of her church, a founding member of Korean Community Center of Princeton, a Korean language teacher on weekends, an avid gardener, an incredible self-taught cook, a classical music lover – and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew, daughter, Monica, three siblings, three sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, her mother-in-law, and 9 nephews and nieces.
