Obituary of David Tierno
David A. Tierno, 78, of Princeton died Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at home. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he has been a resident of Princeton since 1978. He retired from Ernst & Young as Managing Partner in 1999 with over 36 years of distinguished service. David loved dedicating his time to his many passions, including the arts and education. He served as Chair of the Princeton Symphony Board, and President of the Friends of the Princeton University Art Museum where he also served as a docent. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s University where he served as a member of the board of visitors for the Haub School of Business. He was club president at the Bedens Brook Country Club. He was a member of the Nassau Club, The Princeton Pikers, and a parishioner at St. Paul’s Church.
Son of the late David A. and Eleanor (O’Neill) Tierno, he is survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Enea M. (Teti) Tierno, 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law David A. and Patricia Tierno, John P. and Eva Tierno, 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law Deborah and Rick Bruce, Elizabeth and Michael Sontag, 2 sisters Eleanor McLain, Barbara Tierno and his pride and joy, 13 grandchildren–Kristen Pantelides (married to Nick Pantelides), Catherine Sontag, Laura Tierno, David Tierno, Rachel Bruce, Daniel Tierno, Samantha Sontag, Alexander Bruce, Margaret Tierno, Steven Sontag, Willow Tierno, Nicolas Bruce, Zoé Tierno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am on Saturday, December 8, 2018, St. Paul’s Church 216 Nassau Street, Princeton, N.J. Burial will follow in the Princeton Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of David A. Tierno may be made to either the Princeton Symphony Orchestra P.O. Box 250, Princeton, N.J. 08542, or the Parkinson’s Foundation 1359 Broadway, Ste 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018.
