Obituary of George Jodko

On August 16, at the age of 90, George Jodko passed away peacefully in his sleep.He was born in Ust-Laba, Russia on June 14, 1929 to Simeon and Natalia Jodko. Growing up, he experienced a harsh life under Stalin in Communist Russia and the turbulent years of World War II, ultimately ending up living with his parents in a displaced persons camp in Fishbeck, Germany. At the age of 21, he immigrated to New York with his parents. In New York he attended and graduated from City College of New York. George was part of the St. Vladimir Youth Organization, where in 1954 he met Marianna Malinnikow. They were married in 1955 and eventually moved to Long Island where they raised their three daughters. The whole family was active in the St. Seraphim parish where George was the church warden for several years. George worked primarily as a watchcase designer and jeweler, eventually retiring when he sold his business in the early 1990s, and moving with his wife to Cooperstown, NY.

George is survived by his three daughters and their families. Helen and her husband Archpriest George, Irene and her husband Archpriest Serge, Nina and her husband Frank, grandchildren, Ksenia, Michael, Anastasia, Elizabeth, Juliana and George, Alexander, Vladimir, Alexei, Anna, Nicholas, Nina, Anya, and Sofie and 30 great-grandchildren.

There will be a panikhida at St. Elizabeth's church in Rocky Hill, where all are invited to come pay their respects on Monday evening from 6 -8 PM. Funeral and burial services will be held at Novo Diveevo Russian Orthodox Convent in Nanuet, NY at 11am on Tuesday morning.
