Yasuko Makino, 82, of Skillman, NJ passed away January 5, 2020.
She was born in Tokyo, Japan on April 8, 1937 to Mr. Toshio Hosoya and Mrs. Itsuko Hosoya. Yasuko graduated from Tokyo Women’s Christian University with a BA in Psychology. Later, she graduated with a MA in teaching English as a Second Language and a Masters in Library Science both from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She was married to Dr. Seiichi Makino.
Yasuko worked as a Cataloger and Bibliographer in the East Asian Libraries at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Columbia University, and at Princeton University where she retired and was awarded the prestigious title of Japanese Bibliographer and Cataloger, Emeritus.
Yasuko loves reading, taking care of plants and eating sweets and could be summed up as the embodiment of selflessness, kindness, humility and positivity by anyone who got to know her.
She is survived by her husband, her son, Shigeki Makino of Scottsdale, AZ and grandchildren Dean Makino of San Francisco, CA and Lina Makino of Mexico City, Mexico.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 5-7pm at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave, Princeton, NJ 08542. The funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 2-4pm at the Kingston Presbyterian Church, 4565 NJ-27, Kingston, NJ 08528. There will not be a burial.
