We met Arthur and Carol in the Caribbean many years ago, introduced by a mutual friend 'Smiling' Harry Thomas of Freetown Antigua, pictured; Arthur and Harry provided hours of seamless wit and intelligent company during the months of January and February, whilst my wife Helen and myself shared the tropical sunshine with them.
Based in the Cotswolds in the United Kingdom, we were privileged to welcome Arthur and Carol, together with their grandson who at the time was a student in nearby Oxford, to our home some years ago to entertain them for a family lunch, it was a marvellous occasion for us all to catch up here in England, rather than in Antigua as we had done so for some many years during the winter months.
We are endeavouring to plan our winter holidays and had sent an email to Arthur informing him of our plans, only to be informed by another mutual friend in Antigua of his passing which fell as a great blow.
When they designed Arthur they broke the mould, fiercely old school and completely certain of his position in any set of circumstances, he could fascinate me for hours with his reminiscences on all levels and subjects; his trick was to ask you a question which of course you couldn't answer and then go on to provide you with all the background information you needed. The subjects, beyond medicine, on which he was suitably expert never ceased to amaze me.
The world will be less colourful place without him, both Helen and myself wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Carol and her extended family and wish all his friends across the US, Caribbean and beyond every good fortune during these difficult times. Dr. Ackerman was such a kind and funny man!! Wouldn't let go of Ashley his prise plumber, till his life's end!! When Ashley advised me of his passing, he had just cleaned the cistern at Dr. and Mrs. Ackerman's residence.
Glad I was able to speak with Dr. Ackerman and holler at his usual irreverent conversation, laden with salty jokes, just before he typically broke through the island's COVID-closed borders and, winged his way right back home.
Just three of us left now, from a family of nine!! Dr. Ackerman was by Ashley's side for every funeral!! Never in a suit or dress shirt as I can recall. Always in just his island 'tuxedo'; shorts, t-shirt and, cap!!
Sail on Dr. Ackerman. Head out on the sea you loved so very much; buoyed by the waves beneath you, the wind in your face and at your back and, bathed in perpetual light, to your place of rest!!
Ashley and family, Llewellyn and I thank you, for who you were to us all!! Our memories of you will always be a great blessing!!

Always enjoyed visits as a child with Dr. Ackerman and the family, whether it be hunting, beekeeping, his lab Winston or driving [a tad fast :) ] in his classic 2 door Volvo. His passing brings back wonderful childhood memories and I wish all much love as they celebrate his life. The obit was an amazing tribute to a wonderful life. His sense of humor was great, as I can vividly remember his spelling of anatomical words with our refrigerator magnets after a night of bridge with our folks. Plus Mrs A could cook and bake and those treats were always the best.

Dr. Ackerman was one my favorite customers in the bank! He has such a lively spirit and had the biggest heart! He was always bringing us some kind of gift from the countries he traveled to, and would tell us stories about his encounters abroad. When he left the bank, he would leave us all laughing at his jokes. He's accomplished so much in his life, and it's been an honor assisting you throughout the years! May you rest in paradise! My condolences to his family and friends. The world lost a great man...
