My condolences to the family. I’m a friend of Nancy’s sister. Sandra shared many fond memories, and it’s quite evident that she was proud of her sister and loved her very much.

My mother crewed for Ed Bitzer on a Hobie 16 in the BBYRA. This shot was taken from the Committee Boat seconds before the start of the race. On a Hobie, both the crew and the skipper can trap off the hull to improve boat speed. This entails attaching a wire hanging off the mast to a harness. This is no small feat and requires practice and balance. For someone that was close to 50 in age, this is even more of a challenging act. The Hobie class started in the afternoon, which meant they were usually sailing in the full force of a Barnegat Bay sea breeze. Hobies were also one of the last classes to be abandoned by the RC due to high winds. My mother had many great stories sailing with Ed in these conditions.

My brother Chris was the comedian in the family and always knew how to make my mother laugh. He had a special talent for impersonations and enjoyed making fun of the people we loved most. My parents were at the top of the list. He does this great impersonation of my mother on the phone, surrounded by rambunctious boys usually fighting with each other. While talking on the phone my mother would cringe at the culprits and point, then snap her fingers at us like a conductor of a big band ensemble. If that didn’t work (it usually didn’t) she would scowl, make a fist and stomp her feet. Chris had this sequence down and would make everyone laugh including my mother.

My most sincere condolences to all the family. I have fond memories of Ann and her love for life. We shared an adventure involving a messenger pigeon who decided to live at the Faranettas Culebra house instead of returning to its home in Puerto Rico; she made sure that we were able to rehab It and return It to PR but, upon release after several weeks of care, it flew back to the Faranetta’s house! I’ve never met a nicer person and am saddened to hear of her passing. Bless you Ann

My condolences to all —what an amazing woman!
My memory of Ann is on a visit to Calebra while on a cruise with Arline!
Enjoyed a lovely afternoon and can still see her waving a towel in farewell when we were back on the ship!
What an exuberant send off!
I know she is smiling back at all!
Rest peacefully!
