Verne and I have been friends for 40 years. He was a very special, detail oriented guy. We often had discussions that would get pretty deep regarding the Late Great cars, 348 and 409 powered ones especially. I will miss his knowledge, but also his friendship. Rest easy buddy.

Verne was a very special guy, always upbeat and smiling and I will sincerely miss his phone calls and chats. Indeed he was known around the world as the go to guy for the early Impalas and will be greatly missed by all who knew and respected him. Too often we do not appreciate someone until after they were gone. Verne was different. We all appreciated him for what he knew and did to help us all. Rest in peace buddy.

Verne was a 'good-egg.' I met him through the Yenko Forum and conversed. His guidance and recommendations where helpful when I was looking for "a big-Chevrolet". Always met up with him at the Carlisle Auto Flea Market. Was easy going and we'd share a funnel cake! Peace, my friend. Jeff

I was honored to know Verne-having met up with him at a few events...and even was his "chauffeur" from the airport in St. Louis for one of the Super Car Reunions. As was said above, Verne was an amazing and knowledgeable 409 historian and would help anyone who asked.
The picture I have included was from the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in 2014-where Verne participated as a judge of unrestored muscle cars (part of the Vintage Certification group). I was trying to surprise the guy on the right (Paul) and succeeded in doing so...to the delight of Verne. :)
Here's a post from the Yenko site...where there are numerous posts detailing what he meant to the the folks on that site. There is also a link to the "Members Ride" that we did for his 409...his special car.

To his wife Janet and all of his friends and family...we offer up prayers. God speed, Verne!
Bruce Blythe and family and the Yenko.net family, too!

My sincere sympathy to the Frantz family. I met Verne thru the ChevyTalk Forum years ago and even though we never met in person I felt I had been a friend of his for years. I also restore 61 thru 64 Impala's (mainly 62's) and Verne helped me out with information several times. I always post pics of my progress on the restorations and was always very humbled when Verne posted "nice work Rich" with his earned respect in the classic car hobby what better compliment could one receive! I just turned 71 on 12/31/49 as we are so close in age.
Thank you for sharing Verne with us all!
All my thoughts and prayers to the family,
Sincerely,
Richard A. Fallat

Verne is my cousin, his mother Aunt Jean, my father's sister. Even though we lived miles apart we reconnected on many visits. We were very much alike as motor oil runs in our veins.
He will be missed. Condolences to Janet and his many friends may God grant love, strength, and guidance to all.

I've never met Verne but I have known him for 21 years. Verne was a vital part of the old car community, especially that of Chevrolet. He was working on a book about full size Chevrolet cars that I hope someone will finish. The world is diminished in his absence but has benefited by his life. I sure hope he finds a place up there full of guys that love old Chevrolets.

I met Verne a few years ago when I joined the Late Great Chevy club. Got to know him and developed a real friendship. Aside from his incredible auto hobby knowledge I'll mostly remember a kind caring person who took the time to help so many. I will miss him greatly. Heaven is a little better place now. My sincere condolences to Janet and family. RIP My friend, we will all meet again. Doug & Carmen Craner

The automotive world has lost a great historian, and a teacher to all that knew him. His passion and love for the Chevrolet X frame cars was only exceeded by his knowledge about these cars. My sincerest condolence to his family and friends. May his memory be for a blessing.

I met Verne in the late 1980's, describing his passion, the 10 million marvelous 1958-1964 Chevrolet (full-size) passenger cars that rode on the unique X-frame. His quest to decipher the Fisher Body data tag codes, and document every aspect of these cars piqued my interest too, and for three decades I joined him as a detective in the Jersey Late Great's Club project. We presented seminars of our findings at conventions in 2005 and 2009 after months of collaboration. He was a great mentor and helped me when I needed it. Sometimes we sparred on details and delivery but Verne Frantz was a friend who will be missed by many. Scott Haring, Dublin OH

My sincerest condolences to the family. As tall as he was, is as big was his heart. Verne was always there when needed whether it was to help with a car or just to listen and give advice. He is a great friend and will never be forgotten. Rest easy my friend.
