Obituary of Henry Bercuk
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Henry “Hank” Bercuk, of Princeton Junction, the beloved husband of Loretta for 66 years, devoted father of Diane Fields (Richard Baldwin) and Susan Bercuk, and adoring Gdziadzi to his grandson, Jonathan Fields. Henry Joseph Bercuk was born on New Year’s Day in 1932 in Jersey City, NJ and lived each day to its fullest. He lived in Brooklyn, NY, raised his family in Oradell, NJ, and in 1987 settled in Princeton Junction, NJ. Hank’s love of political debate and track skills were developed through his Lasallian Catholic education at Bishop Loughlin High School. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Manhattan College where he was a member of the Jaspers’ track team that held world records in the 220, 440, and mile relay in 1951, 1952, and 1953.
During the Korean War, Hank served in the Army while stationed at Governor’s Island in New York. Hank spent his business career at Morgan Guarantee and Trust Company on Wall Street and 57th Street in New York City where he was a Vice President. After retiring at 62, Hank enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, season tickets to the Giants, and spending time with friends and family. He loved to spend evenings talking politics and current events with friends while enjoying a glass of Macallan 12 Scotch. Hank was a pillar of his church community, St. David the King, where he remained an active member until his passing. His faith and generosity were seen by all that knew him. Our family is thankful to Dr. Stephen Hahn, Dr. Howard Herrmann, and Dr. Robert Maki at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center for their support in this 16-year cancer battle, and to Father Tim at St. David the King Catholic Church in Princeton Junction, New Jersey.
The family will hold visitation on Thursday, June 3rd from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at St. David the King Catholic Church, 1 New Village Rd, Princeton Junction, NJ 08550. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m., at St. David the King. A private burial service will be attended by immediate family members at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery at a later date.
Donations may be made in memory of Henry Bercuk to St. David the King Church Social Concerns, 1 New Village Rd, Princeton Junction, NJ 08550 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
