BURIAL
Obituary of Mary Gorra
Mary Gorra, 92, a long time resident of Spring Lake Heights, died on June 13, 2021. She was born to immigrant parents who settled in Cleveland, Ohio after coming to America through Ellis Island in the mid 1920's. She worked as secretary to the Vice President of The Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland, before moving to the Jersey Shore when she married her late husband Michael. She was committed to her faith and her love of the Armenian culture and community. She enjoyed many years of weekly attendance at St. Stephanos Armenian Church in Elberon, NJ and served this organization through her participation in the Women's Guild. She especially loved to sing in the choir in her native language that she spoke fluently. She was a phenomenal cook of many Middle Eastern dishes she made to recognize her Armenian, and her husband's Lebanese ethnic traditions. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, relative, and friend to those who were blessed to be part of her family and life.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Hinz of Princeton, and Michele Kunkel of Pennington, her grandchildren Karl Hinz and Mary Grace Kunkel, her sister Stella Forbes, and many members of her extended in-law family and friends. In her later years she developed Alzheimer's disease and she spent her final year of life happy and being well-cared for primarily by her daughter Lisa, and loving caretakers at Lisa's home.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 9:30-10:30am at St. Paul's Church, 216 Nassau St., Princeton, NJ 08542. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Mt Calvary Cemetery, Asbury Park, NJ.
