Sylvia Brown-Martin, 97, of Los Angeles died Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center of Plainsboro, New Jersey. Born in New Hebron, MS. She resided most of her life in Los Angeles, California. Sylvia was a longtime member of the Praises of Zion Church and flower guild. She was a member and served as the President of the Eastern Stars of California. She was a devout Christian with a servant’s heart for all the days of her life.
Daughter of the late Stephen and Iola (Williams) Abrams, beloved twin sister of the late Mottee Byrd, wife of the late Wille Martin, and wife of the late Alexander Brown, mother of the late Deon Brown and Alexander J. Brown, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Delorise E. Sorrell and her two sons, Steven C. Brown and Markham R. Brown. She is also survived by her oldest granddaughter, Dr. April Sorrell-Taylor and grandson-in-law, Captain Dwayne Taylor, numerous other grandchildren, Obie Taylor and many other great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Praises of Zion Church 8222 San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, California. Entombment will follow in the Inglewood Park Cemetery 720 East Florence Avenue, Inglewood, CA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church.
