Gene Tom of North Brunswick passed away on March 15, 2022 at the age of 54. In the eight months that he battled brain cancer, Gene showed the world his true fighting spirit. Despite his severe medical challenges, he stayed strong until the end and left this world a fiercely loyal friend, husband, and father.
Gene grew up in Freehold, NJ before living and working in New York. He then settled back in New Jersey, where he worked as the Director of Information Technology at New Jersey Business & Industry Association. In his free time, he loved driving fast when no one was looking, playing ping pong with his friends, and riding his mountain bike around the neighborhood. A passionate advocate for Asian-American culture, Gene was also a volunteer table tennis teacher at the Mid-Jersey Chinese School.
He is survived by his parents Paul and Mae, wife of 24 years Linda, daughters Natalie and Stephanie, brother Ryan, and a feisty cat named Rachelle.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society, the same rescue society that his beloved family cat and occasional nemesis, Rachelle, was adopted through.
