As I reflect on my Mom’s life, I am impressed by the incredible strength and fortitude she had to persist throughout her 97 years.
Mom loved her children, instructed us and pointed us in the right direction. She didn’t want us to make some of the same mistakes that she made. Her goal as a mom was to be a protector and to frankly offer guidance.
Mom would often say “learn all you can” because she understood that learning was the key to success in life and work.
Mom taught us if you make a mistake, apologize; if you are thankful, show it; if you learn something, share your knowledge; if someone needs assistance, help them; and if you witness wrongdoing, take a stance.
I learned through Mom’s example to be resilient in the face of obstacles and challenges. Mom taught that God will grant us the strength to navigate through life’s storms. Mom advised if you can’t change a situation, you need to accept it, adapt, and move forward.
Mom always said to love your enemies, forgive them and pray for those who curse, demean, or reject you and be content with the truth. Each one of us must find our own way on life’s journey to achieve peace of mind, an open heart and self-awareness.
Mom deserved to feel valued, acknowledged and appreciated. So, thank you mom for all your countless sacrifices and love throughout the years. Rest in the peace that you have earned. You will be in my heart forever. I love you. Marian
