Dear Mary and Family,
I am so sorry to just learn of Dr. Bechlar's passing.
After reading about his amazing life and all who knew him, I thought of course he is so beloved.
I met Dr. Bechlar after my son's accident. He needed emergency knee surgery. Dr.B told us that he had never seen an injury like my son's before and he would figure out a way to save his knee. And he did just that - with grace, good humor, and confidence. I swear I could see Dr.B's aura glowing around him as he spoke. I knew we were in good hands.
Every once in a while you meet someone who was put on this earth to do God's work. I feel blessed to have had my child treated by the miraculous Dr. Bechlar.
My sincere condolences,
Denise Applewhite

Mary,
The news of Jeff's death, which I only learned about a couple of hours ago astonished me. Having been retired for 10 years, I have lost touch with most of my University contacts (the few still working, that is) and was not aware of the situation, Fortunately, for me, that is, I did have professional interactions with him as a physician a few times during the decade. The clearest memory I will cherish about Jeff is that he simply adored you and his family. I never saw him, when we did not talk about you.
His love and respect for you and your own accomplishments was without reservation. His face would light up and his demeanor
was a joy to behold when he would update me on any news about you or any of the children. At my stage of life, 81, he was still in "puberty", which makes his loss even more devastating. Having lost my youngest daughter to Covid (pre vaccination days) in 2020, the thought of the emotions you are experiencing, simply said, breaks my heart. I cannot tell you that sort of pain ever goes away....it begins to get a bit softer in time, however, one does not extinguish such love....ever. You and the children will be in my prayers and Jeff will always keep a place in my heart, because he touched my life in a lovely way. At the end of the day what we leave behind is how we touched the lives of others.....he leaves such touches with many, many folks. It is a remarkable legacy.
Fondly,
Caroline Dinsmore-Clancy

To Mary and your family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of Jeff from high school. I met him when I was a freshman and we became fast friends. He was a great athlete, smart and handsome. I think I can take credit for
Introducing him to Mary, at a high school dance. And the rest is history….I so cherish the surprise visit we had pre-pandemic in Rhode Island where we got to catch up, nap on the beach and share a meal together. My thoughts are with you as you navigate this difficult time. May you find comfort in fond memories of good times had. Much love, Ann Delaney Jack

To Jeff’s entire family, I extend my sincere condolences for your loss. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Jeff since his time as a resident at Robert Wood Johnson. He has gifted us with many wonderful memories. His wit was just one among many.
There was also the unmistakable and welcome sound of his footsteps coming down the hall that made you say…” Here comes Jeff” whether or not you were expecting him. It was a tell tale sound of his presence even before he rounded the corner. It was truly a blessing and a pleasure to have known and worked with Jeff. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. May God grant you all peace, comfort and strength in your memories.
With prayers and deepest sympathy,
Karen Antipin ( RWJ OR)
