Obituary of Peter W. Radice Jr.

Peter W. Radice, Jr., a lifelong resident of Mercer County, died early the morning of March 10, 2023. He was 94 years old.

Born July 18, 1928, he was the son of Peter W. Radice and Mary Vizzini Radice. Pete attended school in Trenton, graduating from Trenton High School in 1946. A prominent resident of the greater Trenton area, Pete led a distinguished career in banking, local government, state-agency work, and with his own real estate company, Radice Realty, closing his last deal in 2022. Pete was elected to City Council (Councilman At-Large) in Trenton in 1962 and had the honor of being re-elected in 1966. He served as Council President during that second four-year term. Pete finished his full-time career with the New Jersey Department of Transportation. He also served in the U.S. Army and was an active member of American Legion Post 414.

A proud Italian-American, Pete was the Chairman of Trenton’s annual Columbus Day Parade for more than 25 years. He also was active with the “Boys’ and Girls’ Town of Italy” charity as well as the “San Felese Society.” He regularly reminded anyone who would listen that no major leaguer ever measured up to legendary Yankee Joe DiMaggio, also of Italian descent. DiMaggio also reflected Pete’s love of baseball. He was a high school catcher and coached his sons in the Lawrence Township Little League, an organization he led as President at one point. A fan of all sports throughout his life, Pete enjoyed playing golf badly in his later years.

Pete’s family was the center of his life. He had six children, 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. His generosity and love were poured out on the family at special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, graduations, and at regular family gatherings. But nothing meant more to him than the traditional Christmas Eve celebration at his Princeton home and annual family vacations on Long Beach Island.

Pete is survived by his wife, Ingeborg, and all of his children, Maria Irene (Michael) of Lawrenceville, Alicia Smith (Joseph) of Hopewell, Paula Yrigoyen (Charles) of Bradenton, Fla., Peter (Claire) of Carlsbad, Calif., Robert (Clare) of Hopewell, and John (Katy) of Princeton. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Daniel, Russell, and Michael, and his sister, Philomena.

Chronologically, his grandchildren are Andrew, Michael (Alexis), Benjamin, Darin, Matthew (engaged to Alexandra), Hunter (Megan), Luke, Megan, Will, Trevor, Drew, Annie, Phoebe, Reyer, and Hudson. His great-granddaughter is Sophie, and another great-granddaughter is due in May. Sammy, a stray dog who wandered onto the Princeton property during a snowstorm many years ago, was Pete’s beloved pet until she went over the rainbow bridge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 216 Nassau St, Princeton, NJ 08542.

Burial will follow in the Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, NJ.
