He was always caring and never pretentious,a gifted listener who led by example. Our deepest sympathies to Linda and their three terrific children.

Linda: This is such shocking news. I am so sorry to hear about David. I always enjoyed talking to him, such a delightful guy. I didn't know that he had done some preservation projects in Mass in earlier years, but was so interested to hear about his work on behalf of NJ Preserve. Please accept our sympathies. We will miss David greatly. Steve and Tom

Dear Linda, Bruce and I are so very sorry for your tragic loss. I wish we could offer sage advice on how to get through this awful time, but nothing we can say will ease the pain you and your kids are feeling right now. But I will say that, even though we obviously didn't travel in the same circles at Princeton (and since then as well) I always appreciated, so much, how cordial and friendly you were to me at reunions and other Princeton events. And I want to say thank you for that--and for David to so embrace the Princeton traditions was really very special. Very Fondly, Cathy

My condolences to Linda, my classmate, and the children. I last ran into David at the pavilion overlooking St. Michael's farm this past March. I was there with my wife whose mother grew up in the St. Michael's orphanage in the late 1920s/early 1930s. I recognized David talking to some other people and went over to say hello and chat. He told us he walked almost every day from his home in Hopewell to that corner of the farm property from which there is a fantastic view of the valley. It a very special, indeed spiritual, place. Thanks to David and others like him, this beautiful place will stay pristine into perpetuity. May the memories of David and his contributions to our world last forever. Sincerely, Steve Stambaugh
