Josephine Anne Neff Beaman, 79, of Hightstown, New Jersey and Alexandria, Pennsylvania, died on December 1, 2013, at J. C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon after five months' illness following open heart surgery. Jo Anne was born in Freehold, New Jersey on April 1, 1934 to the Rev. Charles H. Neff and Josephine Hunt Neff. After graduation from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA she was an elementary school teacher in New Jersey until her retirement some thirty years later, focusing mainly on the second grade. In 1963 she married the Rev. Robert Sonius Beaman, a Presbyterian minister, and continued in marriage until his death in 1993. In retirement Jo Anne divided her time between her home in Hightstown, New Jersey and the Neff family home in Alexandria, Pennsylvania, which she inherited in 1991. A lifelong Democrat, she campaigned for President Obama in 2008, putting up campaign posters and telephoning prospective voters. She believed in higher education and was quick to invest in the college funds of ambitious high school students in Alexandria whose means were limited. She also contributed generously to funds for missionary work in Africa, Haiti, and elsewhere. Funeral services for Jo Anne will be held on Saturday, December 14, at 10 a.m. at Old Tennent Presbyterian Church in Tennent, NJ. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Neff-Beaman Fund at Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ 08540. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home.
