Mary Hall Bauer passed away at 97 on January 22, 2014 with family at her side in the comfort of her home at Meadow Lakes in Hightstown. Born Mary Stuart Hall on July 25, 1916 in New York, NY, she was the younger daughter of Hugh and Margaret Hall. She graduated from Linden High School and worked on Wall Street in the late 1930s. In November 1939, she married the love of her life, the late Raymond Wood Bauer. Raymond, the former Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of United Counties Bancorporation and a former Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, passed away in February 2001. In remembrance of Raymond, Mary helped to conceive and fund the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade Home of the Performing Arts on North Wood Avenue in Linden, the site of free concerts, specials, and dance nights in the park. Mary and Raymond spent many happy years in Cranford and Westfield. They were longtime members of the Presbyterian Church in Westfield, Echo Lake Country Club, and Baltusrol Golf Club. Mary volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America and was a lifelong advocate for animals, including through her support of the Humane Society of the United States and the Cleveland Amory Society's Fund for Animals. Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Biddar, and her younger daughter, Victoria Myers. She is survived by her son Eugene of Jupiter, Florida and her daughter Patricia Ruud of Auburn, California, as well as by four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mary will be remembered most for her love and enjoyment of family, her engaging personality, her gift of hospitality, her insatiable appetite for learning, her passion for travel, and her advocacy for animals. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Humane Society of the United States.
