Peter J. Lucchesi, 87, of Princeton died peacefully early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2014 at Capital Health Hopewell surrounded by his family. Born in New York City, he was a World War 2 veteran and a resident of Princeton since 1986. After receiving a PhD in Chemistry from New York University, Peter became Vice-President of Research at Exxon Research and Engineering, where he provided over 30 years of service. He was then employed by ENI Chemical as Director of Research for 6 years. Most recently, in 2013, Dr. Lucchesi became Head of a Scientific Advisory Board for the American Refining Group in Bradford, Pennsylvannia, where he was engaged in pursuing new chemistry for the oil refining industry up until the time of his death. According to a colleague, "Peter was not just a retired 87 year old; he was a kindred spirit to many and his death brings sadness to all who knew him." In addition to a brilliant scientific mind and acute business sense, Peter had an infectious love of learning a passionate appreciation of music, especially opera. He was a member of the University Club in New York City and the Nassau Club in Princeton, NJ. He had close friendships that spanned the world and he was immensely devoted to his family. Dr. Lucchesi was deeply spiritual and believed that there were only a few things necessary to live a joyous and full life: family, friends, food, wine, books and music. The world was touched by his extraordinary life and he will missed by the many people who loved him. Son of the late Francesco and Ormeda (Cinquini) Lucchesi, husband of the late Tosca Lucchesi, brother of the late Arsete Lucchesi, he is survived by his wife Marlene (Lulka) Lucchesi, 3 sons Peter R. Lucchesi, John and Edmund Harrigan, 2 daughters and a son-in-law Laura and James Mandaglio, Alisa Harrigan, 7 grandchildren Lia, James, Abigail, Asa, Grace, Katie and Alexandra. The funeral will be held 9:00 am on Monday March 24, 2014 from the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am St. Paul's Church 214 Nassau Street, Princeton. Entombment will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY.
