Obituary of R. Peter Hodge

R. Peter Hodge, 77, entered into rest at his home in Princeton on April 5, 2014. Born in Lakewood, NJ on July 8, 1936. He was the son of late Raymond Demarist and Mary Elizabeth Cozzins Hodge. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Leona Hodge of Princeton. In 1959 he became a licensed Funeral Director. In 1971 he became owner and director of the Mather- Hodge Funeral Home of Princeton, and in 1976 acquired the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home in Monmouth Junction. Peter was a member of the Mercer County Funeral Directors Association and Past President of the N.J. State Board of Mortuary Science. He served in the US Army and Reserves for six years. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Princeton since 1971, he served as director and was awarded twice as Paul Harris Fellow. He served as director of the YMCA of Princeton. He was a founding member of the 200 club of Mercer County serving as President and Trustee. For thirteen years he served as Trustee and Treasurer of Princeton Public Library. Peter was Chief of Princeton Fire Department and had served as President and Trustee of Princeton Hook and Ladder Fire Company. He was a member of Princeton United Methodist Church and served on the advisory board and Pastor Parish relations committee. He was a member of the Nassau Club, Princeton Township Construction Board of Appeals for twenty four years. Peter was a life member of the West Windsor Township PBA Local # 271, Princeton Borough PBA Local # 130, Princeton Masonic Lodge # 38 F&AM, and the Princeton Shriners International and the West Point Army A Club. He enjoyed his membership in the NJ Performance Powerboat Club. Peter attended many of the Poker Runs and generously supported Shore Dreams for Kids. The Funeral will be held Friday 10:00 AM April 11, 2014 at Princeton United Methodist Church 7 Vandeventer Ave. Princeton. Burial will be in Princeton Cemetery, Calling hours will be held Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home 40 Vandeventer Ave. Princeton.
