William J. Kearns, 92, of Paterson and Princeton died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Brandywine Assisted Living in Princeton. Born in Paterson, he was a resident of Paterson for 91 years. He was a resident of Brandywine Assisted Living in Princeton for the last 15 months. He was a policeman with the Paterson Police Department. He was past President of PBA Local #1 for 8 years, President of Paterson Police Credit Union for over 50 years, Director of Civil Defense & Training, Officer of Auxiliary Police for 14 years, Detective in Paterson Mayor's Office, Director of Junior Police, Motorcycle Officer for 17 years, Street and Car Patrolmen, President and Charter Member of the Elm Tree Golf Club, life member of the DAV and Armitage Post 18, a World War II veteran of the Army Air Force, and President of St. John's Holy Name Society for 2 years. Son of the late Raymond and Agnes (McGill) Kearns, husband of the late Bernadette (Haidinger) Kearns, he is survived by his son William J. Kearns and his wife Anne Marie (Marmo) Kearns of Princeton, his son Thomas J. Kearns and his wife Janna (Black) Kearns of Dallas, Texas, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Memorial Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 am Monday, April 21, 2014 at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Monday at St. Paul's Church, 214 Nassau St. Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
