Joseph F. Arena 83, passed away July 29, 2014. He was born May 31, 1931, in Newark NJ, to Rocco and Angelina Arena. Growing up "Down Neck" in Newark, NJ along with his sisters, Marie Fabiano and Jeannie Gager. Joe spent much of his early years singing which included several years on WOR Radio. Graduating from East Side High school, he followed the call and entered the US Navy during the Korean War. After the war, Joe worked refrigeration repairs where he met his wife, Elizabeth Arena. He eventually found a career in the US Post Office where he worked 30+ years before accepting a position working for the Meadowlands Sports Complex as the Manager of their mail operations. After retiring from the Meadowlands, Joe spent much of his time tending to the family and babysitting grandchildren which he loved to do. After moving his family to Livingston, NJ, Joe became an active member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament of Roseland, NJ, where he sang in the choir and was the Cantor for many years. He also spent much of his time assisting with the Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraisers and patient activities; holding backyard carnivals, Tricky Trays and managing a local telethon center, he also held the seat of President to the North Jersey Chapter of the M.D.A. He was member of the Knights of Columbus and ran many blood drives. Joe's interests included camping with his sons, gardening, The NY Yankees, The Football Giants, and his wife's cooking. However everyone that knew Joe knew his heart and his love of family. Joseph Arena was loved by many that included his wife of nearly 57 years, Elizabeth Arena, his sons, Rocco, Joseph, Michael, and Thomas his daughter in-laws, Nancy, Donna and Diana as well as his granddaughters, Sarah, Christen, Katherine, and Natalia.
