Vivianne Hooppaw Russell died peacefully at home on August 28, 2014. Born on April 30, 1923 in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Helene Henrietta Louise Girard and Cadle Hooppaw, she grew up in Leesburg, Virginia, graduated from Wilson High School and George Washington University, where she studied under Dean Acheson. She married Norman F.S. Russell, Jr. on June 30, 1951. They met at Saranac in upstate New York. They were married for fifty-five years and raised two daughters while living at Applestone Farm in Ringoes, N.J. Their life together was full of travel which started with a three month honeymoon, driving from Edgewater Park N.J to Panama and back. They explored the globe from Thailand to Antarctica. Following her husband's death in 2006, Vivianne moved to Stonebridge in Skillman where she enjoyed the company of many lifelong Princeton friends. Vivianne was involved in numerous community volunteer activities, loved art, knitting and cooking and treasured her family. Her children have a wonderful collection of sweaters. Her creative inspiration made many events full of color in the community from the Hospital Fete, PDS Spring Fair to the Princeton Neuro-Psychiatric Annual Luncheon. Vivianne is survived by her two daughters, Anne Russell Barrett of Abu Dhabi and Barbara Russell Flight of Dover, Massachusetts, and three grandchildren, Maria Barrett, Casey Flight and Christopher Flight. There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heifer International (www.heifer.org) Every Christmas Vivianne gave many friends and families a goat or chicken to support a family elsewhere in the world. Arrangements are under the direction of The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home Princeton.
