Obituary of Paul Nation

Paul F. Nation, 90, of West Windsor, NJ and formerly of Vero Beach, FL, died Thursday March 5, 2015 at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Born May 7, 1924 in Dorchester, MA to the late Nellie and Harry Nation, he attended Boston Latin High School and as a member of the "Greatest Generation" was drafted into the armed forces and served honorably in Europe during World War II. Following his return to America, Mr. Nation completed his education courtesy of the GI Bill and obtained his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University. He began his career at Victory Plastics and later worked at various United Shoe Machinery locations in MA, NJ, MI and RI, rising to General Manager of Operations. In the early 1950's, Paul met and married Mary Donatelli, of Providence, RI. Together they raised a family while living in Newton, MA. By the 1970's, in mid-career, Mr. Nation changed occupations, moved to Princeton, NJ and became VP of Operations for Columbia Cheese Corporation in Elizabeth, NJ. In 1992, he retired to The Moorings at Vero Beach, FL, where he and Mary expressed their life-long love of antiques by starting their own business, "Nation's Bounty". They also gave of their time to various organizations including Planned Parenthood and the local Democratic Party. Known for his keen intellect and dry "Nation" humor, Paul enjoyed bridge, The NY Times Crossword Puzzle and travel. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nation was preceded in death by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Max Bott of Palm Beach, FL and Lillian and Dr. Howard Blazar, of Brookline, MA and his son-in-law Robert Hearne of Hightstown, NJ. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 63 years; his children Susan Nation, of West Windsor, NJ, Elizabeth Nation, of Providence, RI, Adam Nation, of Pittsburgh, PA; his grandchildren, Anthony Fraser of New York, NY, Alex Soifer of Los Angeles, CA, Hannah Soifer of Providence, RI; two step great-grandchildren, Zoe and Ella Jackson of Hillsborough, NJ and many nieces and nephews. In our memory and hearts, he will always remain. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Nation's memory may be made to Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast, Inc. either online or mailed to 2300 North Florida Mango Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33409.
