Obituary of Cornelia Coopwood

Cornelia B. Coopwood, of Plainsboro passed away peacefully at Princeton Medical Center on June 12, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was 88. Born in the Tacony section of Philadelphia on June 8, 1923, Mrs. Coopwood moved to Plainsboro in 2003 to be closer to her family. Cornelia graduated from Frankford High School in January 1941 and was inducted into the "Senior 12" because of her scholastic achievement. Following high school, she worked for Stokes Machine Company in Philadelphia as secretary to the company's president. Cornelia later met David Coopwood at Stokes and following his return from World War II, were married October 29, 1949. After raising her daughter, Diane, she also worked at Western Savings Bank as a teller. Shortly after the marriage of her daughter, Cornelia lost her beloved husband. She traveled to visit her grandchildren frequently and remained an important figure in their lives. Central to Cornelia was her family and friends who she readily fostered due to her kind, loving manner and undying positive outlook. Cornelia was an active member of the Wyoming Avenue Baptist Church in Philadelphia for over 50 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher and at Princeton United Methodist Church following her move to New Jersey. Daughter of the late William J. and Elizabeth (Nelson) Barker; beloved wife of the late David F Coopwood, she is survived by her daughter Diane Wolf and her husband, Francis Wolf and her three grandchildren, Andrew, Stephen, and Emily Wolf. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton, NJ 08542. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, County Line and Brookdale Road, Huntington Valley, PA. Friends and family may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home.
