William Thomas Houston, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 5th at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. William, known as Bill, was born on February 13, 1933 and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He was a resident of East Windsor for 35 years before moving to Florence seven years ago. He attended high school at St. John's Prep and received a Bachelor's degree from St. John's University and a Masters from New York University. He worked for Union Carbide, NL Industries and Comdisco Disaster Recovery Services until he retired in 1995 after many years of service. Bill was a veteran of the Korean War and served in Germany as an MP until he was honorably discharged in 1956. Bill was predeceased by his parents William T. and Catherine (Reardon) Houston and his sister Catherine Ann Melley. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kathleen (Carolan) Houston and his five children and nine grandchildren: Bill and Kathleen Houston, and their children Bill and Mary of Haddon Heights, NJ Kathleen and Michael Chandler of Rumson, NJ. Eileen and Timothy Feeney, and their children Bridget, Katie and Erin of Hainesport, NJ. Paul and Laura Houston, and their children Lily and Samuel of Lincroft, NJ. John and Maire Houston, and their children Maeve and John ("Jack") who blessed the family with an early arrival on July 1, 2011. Bill is also dearly remembered by his brother-in-law, Stephen Melley, beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bill loved his family above all else and spent many happy years at the family home in East Windsor and beach house in Highlands. Bill, Dad, Granddad will be missed for his kindness, humor, loyalty and devotion to his family and friends. His impact on the many lives he touched is immeasurable and our love for him eternal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's School, 218 Nassau St., Princeton, NJ 08542 or to the Michael J. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Monday at St. Paul's Church, 214 Nassau St., Princeton. Burial will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, North Hanover Township.
