Doris F. Cowan, 80, of Lawrence Township died Monday, October 26, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Princeton, she was a lifelong Princeton and Lawrence Township resident. Doris also resided for many years in Cape Cod along with her late husband, Bob.
She was a graduate of Springfield College, Springfield, Mass, Class of 1956.
Doris retired in 1991 with over 35 years of service as a Physical Education-Health Teacher with the Lawrence Township Public Schools where she also coached boys and girls tennis and field hockey. She was named to the Lawrence Township Hall of Fame and the Wall of Honor. Doris was a charter member of the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad Ladies Auxilliary, The Osterville Garden Club, Trinity Church, Princeton, St. Peter’s Church, Osterville, and St. Andrew’s Church, Hyannis Port.
Daughter of the late Carmen and Josephine (Southard) Fasanella, wife of the late Robert D. Cowan, she is survived by 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law Donna and Joseph Crafford, Robin and Christopher Leahy, 4 grandchildren Corey Crafford, Josie Crafford, Bridget Leahy, Catherine Leahy and several loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 4 dear cousins that were like brothers to her, Carmen Cirullo, William Cirullo, Charles Cirullo and Robert Yurcho.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015, 1:00 pm at Miller Chapel, Princeton Theological Seminary 64 Mercer Street, Princeton. Burial will be private in the Princeton Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 4-7 pm at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton.
