Richard "Dick" Tryon Wetherald, 75, of Hopewell died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Chandler Hall, Newtown, PA.. Born in Plainfield NJ, he was a resident of Hopewell for over 43 years. Dick retired in 2008 from the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory/NOAA in Princeton, with over 44 years of service as a Senior Research Associate in the field of Greenhouse Warming. Son of the late Joseph Stanley and Ruth (Morey) Wetherald, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lucille "Ceal" E. (Wiggin) Wetherald; a son Kenneth R. Wetherald of Hopewell; 2 daughters, Barbara R. Owen of Skillman and Cindy L. Shane of Fairplay, CO; a brother Stanley Morey Wetherald of Seattle, WA; and 5 grandchildren, David and Daniel Owen, Tanner Shane and expected Shane twins due in March. Dick was passionate about meteorological research, astronomy, steam engines, trains, choral singing and scientific outreach activities for young children, both locally and internationally. His commitment to enriching the lives of others was paramount throughout his lifetime. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Westerly Road Church 25 Westerly Road, Princeton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087; or Westerly Road Church Missions Fund, 25 Westerly Road, Princeton, NJ 08540. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.
